    Per cent92
Exposure LimitsACGIH TLV; 5mg/cu.m. (iron oxide fume)
Exposure LimitsOSHA STEL; 10ppm. (iron oxide fume as Fe)
    3. Hazards Identification
    HMIS RATINGSHealth:0, Flamability:0, Reactivity:0
Emergency OverviewNo Unusual fire or spill hazard. low health risk by inhalation. May be subject to slow oxidation if stored at temperatures above 140F
Potential Health Effects: EyesMay cause mechanical irritation
    Potential Health Effects: SkinNone
Potential Health Effects: InhalationLow Health Risk by inhalation. Treat as Nuisance Dust
Potential Health Effects: Oral LD50Greater than 10 g/kg (RAT)
Effects of Overexposure: AcuteCauses mechanical skin and eye irritation
Effects of Overexposure: ChronicProlonged inhalation of iron oxide dust is known to produce a condition known as siderosis. On X-Rays it appears to be benign pneumoconiosis and is not associated with pulmonary fibrosis or disability unless there is concurrent exposure to other fibrosis producing materials such as silica. The TLV is set to protect against siderosis.
CarcinogenityNot lsted with NTP, IARC or OSHA as a known or suspected carcinogen.
    4. First Aid Measures
INHALATIONRemove to fresh air. If breathing is labored or stopped, give artificial respiration. Get medical attention immediately.
INGESTIONIf swallowed. dilute with large amounts of water to induce vomiting. Consult a physician.
EYE CONTACTFlush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Consult a physician if irritation persists.
SKIN CONTACTWash with soap and water
    5. Fire-Fighting Measures
    Flammable propertiesNon-Flammable
    Flash PointNone
    Flammable LimitsNot applicable
    Hazardous combustion productsNone
EXTINGUISHING MEDIA; Use extinguishing agent applicable to surrounding fire. If oxidation starts, the material should be cooled with water to dissipate the heat.
FIRE FIGHTING INSTRUCTIONSFire fighters should wear NIOSH approved, positive pressure, self contained breathiing apparatus and full protective clothing when appropriate.
UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSIVE HAZARDSRed Iron Oxide may be sugect to rapid oxidization if stored at temperatures above 140F
    6. Accidental Release Measures
Small/large spillsCean up using dry procedures: avoid dusting.
    7. Handling and Storage
HandlingGood industral hygiene practice requires that employee exposure be maintained below TLV. This is preferably achieved through the provision of adequate ventilation where necessary. Where dust cannot be controlled in this way, personal respiratory protection should be employed.
StorageStore in a clean, dry area at ambient temperatures in original unopened containers. Conditions of high humidity may require storage in a controlled envirnment. Store at temperatures well below 140F
    8. Exposure Control/Personal Protection
Engineering ControlsUse with adequate ventilation to meet exposure limits listed in section 2
RESPIRATORY CONTROLNIOSHA approved dust respirator if overexposure potential exists.
    Skin ProtectionLeather or rubber gloves
Eye ProtectionSafety glasses/goggles or face shield recommended.
