Warm Vanilla Glow Honey Soap (Hot Process Soap Recipe)

honey-soap-pinThis recipe creates a luxurious and soothing soap bar, with a warm vanilla fragrance.

Ingredients

(measurements by weight, not volume)

Directions for Hot Process Soap:

  1. Weigh out the lye and water – each in separate bowls – using your scale.
  2. Carefully pour the lye into the water and stir until lye is completely dissolved.*
  3. Allow the lye mixture to cool while you prepare the oils.
  4. Weigh your coconut oil, olive oil, tallow, shea butter, castor oil and beeswax.  Place in a crock pot to melt on low heat.
  5. Once melted, add the lye/water mixture to the oils in the crock pot and stir.**
  6. Stir gently, then using your stick blender, blend the oils and liquid in the crock pot for 2-3 minutes.  Your mixture will become a thick, pudding-like consistency.  This is called “full trace”.
  7. Once the mixture has thickened, cover the crock pot and allow the soap to cook on low heat for approximately 1 hour.  Your mixture should begin to take on a “vaseline” type look.
  8. After one hour, remove your crock from the base and add your reconstituted honey powder, jojoba oil and fragrance oil.  Be sure that these ingredients are at room temperature or warmer.  You will have to work fast while mixing since the soap will cool quickly.
  9. Stir until well combined.
  10. Scoop your soap mixture into your prepared mold.  (Hot process soap doesn’t pour. It is a thick gooey mass that must be scooped into the mold quickly.)
  11. Gently tap the mold on the counter to get out any air pockets.
  12. Allow soap to cool and harden for 48 hours.
  13. Remove from mold onto cutting board and cut into bars.
  14. Place bars on a tray with good airflow and cure for 4-6 weeks.

* CAUTION: This liquid is caustic and should not be touched. Please follow all necessary safety precautions when working with lye.

** Any equipment that touches lye will need to be neutralized in a mixture of white vinegar, soap, and water.
