Herbal Earth Tooth Powder
Recipe and Photo by Rural Rooted (McKayla Martin)
4 Tbsp Bentonite Clay
1 1/2 Tbsp Baking Soda
1 Tbsp Arrowroot Powder
3 Tbsp Powdered egg-shells (egg-shells should be rinsed thoroughly with hot water and dried over-night, then baked in the oven at 300◦C for approx 10 minutes)
1 Tbsp Ground Dried Peppermint*
1 Tbsp Ground Dried Chamomile*
1/2 Tbsp Tbsp Ground Dried Sage*
1 1/2 Tbsp Ground Dried Stevia Leaves
1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
Add clay, baking soda and arrowroot powder to a bowl.
Then, using a mortar and pestle preferably (or a food processor alternatively) separately grind egg-shells, peppermint, chamomile, sage, and stevia into a fine powder (as fine as you can grind it, especially the egg-shells). A mortar and pestle will get you a much finer/controlled grind in quicker timing than a food processor.
Combine powdered egg-shells and herbs (and cinnamon) to clay, baking soda and arrow-root mix.
Stir well until ingredients are uniformly blended. You may wish to alter this recipe depending on your taste preference.
Pour into a storage container.
And there you have it – an all-natural, healthy toothpaste alternative with an indefinite shelf life!
Directions for use:
Simply, pour a small amount of tooth-powder (pea-sized amount) in hand. Wet toothbrush. Using a wet toothbrush, scoop the powder from your hand and begin brushing as you would normally with toothpaste. Wash and rinse as needed. Teeth will feel clean, smooth and fresh! These ingredients are traditionally believed to strengthen while whitening teeth and even help rid of cavities.
