Recipe by Diane Woodall

Yield: 575 g (just over 1 lb of soap)

Ingredients:

158 g Coconut Oil

85 g Olive Oil

57.5 g Palm Oil

42.5 g Mango Butter

30 g Castor Oil

17 g Rice Bran Oil

56.4 g Lye (NaOH)

129 g Water

0.8-ounce Peppermint oil

0.5 tsp Red iron oxide

0.5 tsp Titanium dioxide

Directions:

  1. Weigh out water and lye into separate bowls.
  2. Pour water into a pot, then mix lye into the water (wearing gloves and goggles) until the lye has dissolved.  Heat to 110 degrees F.  (Insert candy thermometer to see the temperature.)
  3. Melt all oils in a separate pot until 110 degrees F.
  4. Spoon out 1 tbsp oil mixture each into two small glass bowls.  Add Red iron oxide in one bowl, and Titanium dioxide in another bowl. Mix well, wiping the spoon in between with a paper towel.
  5. When the lye/water mix has reached 110 degrees F, pour slowly into the oil mixture and mix with a stick blender until you reach a light trace.
  6. Add essential oil, and hand stir to mix.
  7. Pour half the mixture into one bowl and add red oxide/oil mixture. Mix until incorporated.
  8. Add titanium dioxide/ oil mixture to remaining lye/oil mixture in pot and mix until incorporated.
  9. Pour the red mixture into the main pot in small batches, making polka dots around the pot.
  10. Pour the mixture into a prepared 2 lb soap mold, and scrape the sides of the pot with a spatula.
  11. Using a spoon, make peaks at the top of the soap into the desired look.
  12. Cover and wrap the soap mold for 24 hours, then cut into desired thickness.
  13. Cure for 4 weeks flipping the soap often to allow it to dry well. Enjoy!
