Warm Cider Hot Process Soap Recipe

Warm Cider Soap Crockpot Soap Recipe | @SaffireBlueInc

Cozy up to the warming aroma of sweet apples, cinnamon, clove and allspice simmering in your crockpot.  This hot process soap recipe puts your slow-cooker to use and is a hit for autumn.  The palm oil in this highly moisturizing bar is rich in toctrienols, which are a potent form of Vitamin E considered to be 40 to 50 times more powerful than conventional forms. These antioxidants offer powerful protection against free radical and environmental damage, as well as unparalleled healing and nourishing benefits for red, irritated or dry skin.

Warm Cider Soap Crockpot Soap Recipe | @SaffireBlueIncIngredients

(measurements by weight, not volume)

3.5 ounces Sodium Hydroxide (Lye)
9 ounces Distilled Water

15 ounces Palm Oil (Organic)
5 ounces Coconut Oil – 76 (Organic)
2 ounces Rice Bran Oil
2 ounces Shea Butter – Refined – Ghana
1 ounce Castor Oil

1-ounce Warm Cider Fragrance Oil

Equipment:

  • Crock-Pot
  • Bowls
  • Stick Blender
  • Scale
  • Crafter’s Choice Loaf – Regular – Clear Silicone Mold 1501

Directions for Hot Process Soap:

  1. Weigh out the lye and water – each in separate bowls – using your scale.
  2. Carefully pour the lye into the water and stir until lye is completely dissolved.*
  3. Weigh your palm oil, coconut oil, rice bran oil, shea butter and castor oil.  Place in a crockpot to melt on low heat.
  4. Once melted, add the lye/water mixture to the oils in the crockpot and stir.**
  5. Stir gently.  Then, using your stick blender, blend the oils and liquid in the crockpot for 2-3 minutes.  Your mixture will become a thick, pudding-like consistency.  This is called “full trace”.
  6. Once the mixture has thickened, cover the crockpot and allow the soap to cook on low heat for approximately 1 hour.  Your mixture should begin to take on a “vaseline” type look.
  7. After one hour, remove your crock from the base and add your fragrance oil.  (Be sure that your fragrance oil is at room temperature or warmer.)  You will have to work fast while mixing since the soap will cool quickly.
  8. Stir until well combined.
  9. Scoop your soap mixture into your prepared mold.  (Hot process soap doesn’t pour. It is a thick gooey mass that must be scooped into the mold quickly.)
  10. Gently tap the mold on the counter to get out any air pockets.
  11. Allow soap to cool and harden for 48 hours.
  12. Remove from the mold onto a cutting board and cut into bars.
  13. Place bars on a tray with good airflow and cure for 4-6 weeks.

* CAUTION: This liquid is caustic and should not be touched. Please follow all necessary safety precautions when working with lye.

** Any equipment that touches lye will need to be neutralized in a mixture of white vinegar, soap, and water.
