Movie Notes - "The Mandalorian": and "Dark Matters"

"The Mandalorian": a review of the fifth series

The helmet of Fennek, who shot back quite deftly from two guys on bikes, is very similar to the armor of the Inquisitors, a detachment of the Empire that was engaged in the destruction of the Jedi. However, he did not help her much, because Mando and Kalikan still neutralize the killer. But she almost gets free, having persuaded Thoreau to capture the Mandalorian, who is a traitor to the guild. A small man, but he showed foresight mixed with stupidity - he kills Shand, but still decides to turn against his colleague. It's a bad thing - the guy is too green to cause any trouble to his opponent.

Mini-Yoda got the least amount of time this time, having only managed to replay Ben Kenobi's scene - he scared the sand people away from the Hatch with the very sound that came from the ship. Instead, we saw the strange repair droids that Anakin had once assembled on the same planet.

By the way, about Anakin, Fennek, in a conversation with Thoreau, recalls the city of Mos Espa, where a reward awaits her. So, it is there that Speeder races are held, in which the future Darth Vader took part.

But the post-credits scene left a very interesting aftertaste. The fact is that by the characteristic sound when walking, you can understand that Bobba Fett approached the dead (or not quite dead) Fenneck! Yes, even when creating the original trilogy, George Lucas focused on cowboys when he was developing the image of a bounty hunter, and that's why "Mandalorian" resembles westerns. Therefore, Fetty was credited with spurs that could be heard when walking. Well, maybe the next episode will have a much more interesting plot.

HBO's "Dark Matters": a review of the sixth episode

The main problem with "Dark Matters" is that we are too rarely shown emotional contact between people and their Daemons. Yes, the problem partially arose through the budget of the series - if each character had to draw a partner animal that would be constantly in the frame next to its owner, then unprecedented amounts would have to be spent. But the absence of damons in most scenes causes a strange feeling - we don't see a visual difference between the cut-off children and their "normal" peers.

Such small scenes spoil the whole impression - scared children don't cuddle their daemons and don't try to comfort them, so why should we worry that they'll lose them someday? Can't you replace the painted animals with a few parrots, cats, or dogs that were just running around in the background? Just take a couple of close-ups in which the characters would stroke some cute little animals? And most importantly, where is the chemistry between Lyra and Pantalaimon? I still understand why the showrunners decided to save on secondary characters, but the relationship between the main character and her soul should be the center of this story. Even if it turns out to be expensive to depict Lyra's embrace, it would be possible to emphasize their love for each other through dialogues. For example, after Mrs. Coulter saves her daughter from her colleagues, the protagonist must cry from shock and the thought that she might have lost Pantalaimon. At least that's what the book said. I'm not saying that every scene should correspond to the canon, but if some aspects of the novel have caused an emotional reaction from readers, then it's strange to change them during the film adaptation. But there was one pleasant surprise in the sixth episode - we were shown Will Perry's father, played by Andrew Scott ("Sherlock", "Flibeg")! Visit our store and use bonus points to buy a free bet!
